about

"Lenny and I have always had a soft spot for dirty raw garage treasures. The Savages ‘World Ain’t Round, It’s Square’ is nothing short of dirty and raw, with also a socio-political punch. The song talks about being scrutinized as a youth for their differences. ‘They bother us about the clothes we wear’ and ‘They stare at us like we don’t belong’ both of these lines suggest a clash between two generations, between different classes and different belief systems.

The song serves as a greater protest to societies relentless chastising of differences and change (throughout time and history). The things we fear are always met with obstruction and hostility. We fear change, and we fear what we don’t understand.

I think under the current US administration there is certainly evidence of these issues. Right now we are facing a problem bigger than all of us, a global problem, this is a time to awaken as a collective conscious, to unify, and accept our differences, to look onto each other as no less than our own kind.

We wanted to release this song as a union of the Iranian and American people, and all people who struggle with oppressive regimes, who are constantly at the mercy of others non acceptance and intolerance. We hope the unfortunate events unfolding right now will pave a new path for empathy, acceptance and compassion."
